Description
The Venus fly trap in a flask — propagate Dionaea muscipula from sterile tissue culture at home. This is one of the most challenging and rewarding carnivorous plant projects you can take on. Our kit gives you a professionally prepared in-vitro mother culture and everything you need to attempt your first successful multiplication.
Fair warning: Dionaea is unforgiving in tissue culture. It demands clean technique, precise media, and patience. But when it works, there’s nothing quite like it.
What’s in the Kit
- Sterile mother culture — Dionaea muscipula, in-vitro
- Proprietary TC nutrient medium — species-specific, pre-formulated
- Gelling agent
- PPM — Plant Preservative Mixture (contamination control)
- Sucrose
- pH indicator strips
- Autoclavable culture vessels
- Forceps, scalpel handle & disposable blades
- Species-specific protocol card
What You’ll Need at Home
- A pressure cooker for sterilising media
- A still-air box or laminar flow hood for clean transfers
- 70% rubbing alcohol for sterilisation
- High-humidity conditions during acclimatisation
- Time — expect 6–10 weeks before visible shoot multiplication
Before You Order
Allow a minimum of 2 weeks for preparation and dispatch. Dionaea TC establishment is technique-dependent — contamination is common without proper aseptic practice. We do not guarantee culture establishment at your end, but we guarantee every component we send is exactly as described. Best suited to those with some experience handling sterile materials, or serious beginners prepared to learn.
