Description

Nepenthes gracilis 'Veri' — a selected variant of the Slender Pitcher Plant with more pronounced pitcher colouration compared to the Regular form. The Veri clone develops pitchers with stronger red-maroon spotting and a more richly pigmented peristome (pitcher rim), particularly in high-light conditions. The name reflects the verified, consistent colouration of this vegetatively propagated clone.

🌿 About this plant

In all other care requirements, the Veri clone is identical to N. gracilis Regular — it shares the same extraordinary vigour, fast growth rate, and adaptability. The difference is purely in the intensity and consistency of the red colouration, which is genetically fixed in this clone.

This is a Small (S) specimen — younger plants in the early stages of the climbing vine phase, producing well-formed pitchers but not yet at maximum size. The Veri clone's colouration is visible and consistent even in juvenile plants.

An excellent choice for the collector who wants the vigour of gracilis with more dramatic colouration — a visually distinguishable step up from the regular form without any additional care complexity.

✨ Why collectors choose it

  • Selected clone with stronger red-maroon spotting and rim colour
  • Identical easy care to regular gracilis — colour is genetically fixed
  • Colour visible even on juvenile plants

📊 Care at a glance

Parameter What it likes
Climate type Lowland
Grower level Easy
Wild origin Borneo, Sumatra, Malaysia, S. Thailand
Light High light for best colouration. The Veri clone responds particularly dramatically to light intensity — in lower light the colouration is muted; in high indirect or direct morning sun, the red reaches its full depth.
Water Distilled or RO water only. Top-water or tray-water. Medium should remain evenly moist.
Humidity 60–90% RH. Like all gracilis, very tolerant of a wide humidity range. Suitable for open indoor growing in coastal and humid regions of India.
Temperature 24–38 °C lowland range. Thrives under Indian tropical conditions without any temperature manipulation.
Growing medium Long-fibre sphagnum, peat-perlite, or a chunky bark mix. The species is not particular about medium as long as drainage is good and moisture is consistent.

🌡️ Detailed care

  • ☀️ Light: High light for best colouration. The Veri clone responds particularly dramatically to light intensity — in lower light the colouration is muted; in high indirect or direct morning sun, the red reaches its full depth.
  • 💧 Water: Distilled or RO water only. Top-water or tray-water. Medium should remain evenly moist.
  • 🌫️ Humidity: 60–90% RH. Like all gracilis, very tolerant of a wide humidity range. Suitable for open indoor growing in coastal and humid regions of India.
  • 🌡️ Temperature: 24–38 °C lowland range. Thrives under Indian tropical conditions without any temperature manipulation.
  • 🪴 Medium: Long-fibre sphagnum, peat-perlite, or a chunky bark mix. The species is not particular about medium as long as drainage is good and moisture is consistent.

🌱 Establishing your plant in India

  • 🫧 Week 1: unbox immediately, sit the pot in a bright, shaded, humid spot and let the plant settle for 3–4 days before any repotting
  • 🪴 Repotting: only if needed — use fresh long-fibre sphagnum or a sphagnum-perlite mix in a plastic pot with drainage; never garden soil or fertiliser
  • 💦 Water: keep the medium damp with rain / RO / distilled water; a 5–10 mm tray of water is fine in hot weather
  • 🌬️ Airflow: once acclimatised, avoid a permanently sealed box — moving air improves pitcher formation
  • 🐜 Feeding: optional — a few small insects per month once pitchers are active; no fertiliser in the medium

📦 What you will receive

  • 1 established, actively-growing plant — one clump per order (sold individually)
  • Bag-incubated, then hardened to open-air growth before dispatch
  • At least 1–2 live pitchers or forming pitchers at the time of packing
  • Printed India-specific Nepenthes care card

🚚 Shipping & order policy

🇮🇳 Ships across India. Prepaid orders only — Cash on Delivery is disabled because carnivorous plants do not survive the darkness and dehydration of a return transit cycle. Orders are packed in batches alongside live lab work; typical processing time is 2–6 weeks depending on the plant and the season. We pause dispatch during peak monsoon (December–January). Every plant is a unique living specimen — the one you receive will vary slightly from the photographs.

Nepenthes Care

  • Light: Bright indirect light, 4–6 hours. Dappled shade outdoors. No harsh midday sun.
  • Water: Keep tray with 1–2 cm distilled / RO / rainwater (tray watering). Never let soil dry out completely.
  • Humidity: Lowland species: 50–70% RH (normal room humidity works). Pitchers benefit from misting.
  • Soil: 1:1 sphagnum moss and perlite, or pure long-fibre sphagnum. No fertiliser.
  • Temperature: Lowland: 22–35 °C. Tolerates Indian summers well.
  • Feeding: Optional — 1–2 small live insects per month. Never fertiliser.

💡 Tip: Tendril tip needs to touch a surface or hang freely to form a pitcher. Never cut tendrils.
