Description
Nepenthes maxima 'Wavy' × boschiana is a spectacular intermediate-to-highland hybrid combining the extraordinary wavy peristome of the selected maxima parent with the architectural, elongated pitcher form of N. boschiana. The result is a plant that manages to be simultaneously dramatic and manageable — a rare combination among highland Nepenthes.
🌿 About this plant
N. maxima 'Wavy' is a selected clone with an exceptionally undulating, wavy peristome that gives each pitcher an almost decorative, hand-crafted appearance. N. boschiana contributes height to the pitcher, a more elongated cylindrical body, and a rich dark red colouration in the upper portions. Together, the hybrid produces pitchers with wavy rims on tall, dark-red bodies — visually arresting.
This is a Medium (M) specimen — an established, actively pitchering plant with a strong root system. Medium size offers the ideal balance of established root structure and room to grow quickly into a large specimen.
✨ Why collectors choose it
- Wavy undulating peristome from maxima 'Wavy' on tall dark-red boschiana bodies
- Dramatic yet manageable — rare among highland-leaning Nepenthes
- Suited to the Bangalore plateau and hill stations
📊 Care at a glance
| Parameter | What it likes |
|---|---|
| Climate type | Intermediate |
| Grower level | Intermediate |
| Wild origin | Hybrid (Sulawesi × Borneo) |
| Light | Bright indirect light, 5–8 hours. Benefits from some direct morning sun for best colouration. The boschiana influence means higher light produces richer red pigmentation. |
| Water | Distilled or RO water. Keep medium consistently moist but not waterlogged. This hybrid appreciates slightly drier conditions between waterings compared to lowland species. |
| Humidity | 70–90% RH. Intermediate-highland requirement — a grow cabinet or well-ventilated humid space is ideal. In India, suitable for Bangalore plateau and hill stations without cooling, but will need supplemental humidity if grown inland at lower altitude. |
| Temperature | 18–28 °C. Intermediate. Prefers cooler nights than typical lowland species. Will not thrive in sustained temperatures above 32 °C without high humidity compensation. |
| Growing medium | Long-fibre sphagnum with 20% perlite addition. The roots prefer cool, well-aerated, moist medium. Pot in a well-draining container and repot every 18–24 months. |

🌱 Establishing your plant in India
- 🫧 Week 1: unbox immediately, sit the pot in a bright, shaded, humid spot and let the plant settle for 3–4 days before any repotting
- 🪴 Repotting: only if needed — use fresh long-fibre sphagnum or a sphagnum-perlite mix in a plastic pot with drainage; never garden soil or fertiliser
- 💦 Water: keep the medium damp with rain / RO / distilled water; a 5–10 mm tray of water is fine in hot weather
- 🌬️ Airflow: once acclimatised, avoid a permanently sealed box — moving air improves pitcher formation
- 🐜 Feeding: optional — a few small insects per month once pitchers are active; no fertiliser in the medium

🚚 Shipping & order policy
🇮🇳 Ships across India. Prepaid orders only — Cash on Delivery is disabled because carnivorous plants do not survive the darkness and dehydration of a return transit cycle. Orders are packed in batches alongside live lab work; typical processing time is 2–6 weeks depending on the plant and the season. We pause dispatch during peak monsoon (December–January). Every plant is a unique living specimen — the one you receive will vary slightly from the photographs.
