Description

Nepenthes rafflesiana — named after Sir Stamford Raffles, founder of Singapore — is one of the most widespread and variable Nepenthes in Southeast Asia, occurring across Borneo, Sumatra, and the Malay Peninsula. The White variant offered here is a selected clone with unusually pale, cream-white lower pitchers with minimal red pigmentation — a striking contrast to the typical spotted or red-flushed forms.

🌿 About this plant

The pitchers of N. rafflesiana are among the most beautiful in the genus: wide-bellied with a narrow waist, flaring out to an enormous ribbed peristome, and capped with a large, heart-shaped lid. Lower pitchers sit on the ground or trail from the base; upper pitchers hang from the vines and are narrower with upright lids.

The White clone produces lower pitchers that are nearly pure white with cream and very faint green veining. The peristome (rim) maintains its green-white colouration even in high light — most rafflesiana develop a red peristome, making this white form a genuine rarity.

A stunning and relatively easy species for the intermediate grower. The White form is particularly striking displayed against dark-coloured shelving or paired with heavily pigmented Nepenthes hybrids.

• ☀️ Light: Moderate to high indirect light, 4–8 hours. Direct morning sun improves pitcher production and size. This is a sun-tolerant lowland species that benefits from high light levels.
• 💧 Water: Distilled, RO, or rainwater. Tray-water or top-water. Keep medium evenly moist. Rafflesiana is adapted to peat swamps and can tolerate consistently wet medium.
• 🌫️ Humidity: 70–90% RH. Does well in the natural humidity of coastal India. Inland growers should supplement with misting or a humidity tent for best pitcher production.
• 🌡️ Temperature: 25–35 °C. A classic tropical lowland species that thrives in Indian conditions across most of the country.
• 🪴 Medium: Pure long-fibre sphagnum or a 2:1 sphagnum-perlite mix. Fast-growing species that appreciates being repotted every 18 months into fresh medium.

• 💦 Water: keep the medium damp with rain / RO / distilled water; a 5–10 mm tray of water is fine in hot weather
