Nepenthes thorelii × truncata is a highly prized hybrid in the Nepenthes collector community, pairing the elegant red-veined cream pitchers of the rare Vietnamese N. thorelii with the extraordinary volumetric capacity and architectural presence of the Borneo giant, N. truncata. The hybrid is considered one of the finest large-pitchered Nepenthes available to hobbyists.

N. thorelii is a lowland to intermediate species from Vietnam, notable for its cream or tan pitchers covered in intricate red to maroon netting and veining — a pattern that makes individual pitchers look hand-painted. It contributes this remarkable reticulation to the hybrid.

N. truncata contributes massive pitcher size, vigour, and the characteristic wide, truncated pitcher mouth. Together, the hybrid produces large (20–35 cm in mature plants), elegantly veined pitchers with a dramatic presence that makes it a centrepiece specimen in any collection.

• ☀️ Light: Very high light for best colouration — the thorelii vein patterning only reaches full intensity under 6+ hours of bright light or direct morning sun. Under low light, pitchers remain cream-green with faint veining.
• 💧 Water: Distilled or RO water only. Top-water or tray-water. The large pitchers benefit from occasional pitcher-filling with fresh distilled water to maintain enzyme activity.
• 🌫️ Humidity: 70–90% RH. Intermediate-lowland. Suitable for coastal growing and intermediate-altitude locations in India.
• 🌡️ Temperature: 22–34 °C. Intermediate — prefers slightly cooler nights than pure lowland species but is far more heat-tolerant than highland Nepenthes.
• 🪴 Medium: Chunky sphagnum-bark mix. The vigorous truncata-derived root system needs space and aeration — use a large pot (15–20 cm minimum) and plan to size up every 18 months.

🌱 Establishing your plant in India

• 🫧 Week 1: unbox immediately, sit the pot in a bright, shaded, humid spot and let the plant settle for 3–4 days before any repotting
• 🪴 Repotting: only if needed — use fresh long-fibre sphagnum or a sphagnum-perlite mix in a plastic pot with drainage; never garden soil or fertiliser
• 💦 Water: keep the medium damp with rain / RO / distilled water; a 5–10 mm tray of water is fine in hot weather
• 🌬️ Airflow: once acclimatised, avoid a permanently sealed box — moving air improves pitcher formation
• 🐜 Feeding: optional — a few small insects per month once pitchers are active; no fertiliser in the medium

Orders are packed in batches alongside live lab work; typical processing time is 2–6 weeks depending on the plant and the season. We pause dispatch during peak monsoon (December–January).
