Description

Nepenthes viking × ampullaria × veitchii Pink is a complex triple hybrid combining three iconic Nepenthes lineages: the N. × viking hybrid base (known for vigour and wide pitchers), N. ampullaria (the ground-rosette leaf-litter trapper with compact, wide-mouthed pitchers), and N. veitchii (famed for its extraordinarily wide, fluted, candy-striped peristome).

🌿 About this plant

The combination produces a plant of exceptional visual interest: the compact, wide pitchers of ampullaria are enlarged by the veitchii and viking influence, and the peristome develops the ribbing and pink colouration characteristic of the veitchii parent. Each pitcher is a study in the accumulated design language of three extraordinary species.

The 'Pink' designation refers to the peristome colouration — the wide, fluted rim of each pitcher develops a warm rose-pink to coral colour that intensifies with higher light levels and temperature fluctuation between day and night.

✨ Why collectors choose it

  • Three lineages: × viking vigour, ampullaria rosette habit, veitchii Pink rim
  • Wide fluted rose-pink to coral peristome
  • More adaptable than any single parent species

📊 Care at a glance

Parameter What it likes
Climate type Lowland–Intermediate
Grower level Intermediate
Wild origin Complex triple hybrid
Light Bright indirect to moderate direct light. Morning sun ideal for peristome colour development.
Water Distilled or RO water. Tray-watering suits the compact growth habit — keep medium consistently moist.
Humidity 65–85% RH. The complex hybrid constitution makes this more adaptable than any of the parent species individually — a practical advantage for Indian indoor growing.
Temperature 24–34 °C. Lowland-intermediate range. Does well in most of coastal and peninsular India without climate control.
Growing medium Long-fibre sphagnum or sphagnum-perlite mix. The pitcher-rosette growth form means the plant stays compact — repot when roots emerge from drainage holes.

🌡️ Detailed care

  • ☀️ Light: Bright indirect to moderate direct light. Morning sun ideal for peristome colour development.
  • 💧 Water: Distilled or RO water. Tray-watering suits the compact growth habit — keep medium consistently moist.
  • 🌫️ Humidity: 65–85% RH. The complex hybrid constitution makes this more adaptable than any of the parent species individually — a practical advantage for Indian indoor growing.
  • 🌡️ Temperature: 24–34 °C. Lowland-intermediate range. Does well in most of coastal and peninsular India without climate control.
  • 🪴 Medium: Long-fibre sphagnum or sphagnum-perlite mix. The pitcher-rosette growth form means the plant stays compact — repot when roots emerge from drainage holes.

🌱 Establishing your plant in India

  • 🫧 Week 1: unbox immediately, sit the pot in a bright, shaded, humid spot and let the plant settle for 3–4 days before any repotting
  • 🪴 Repotting: only if needed — use fresh long-fibre sphagnum or a sphagnum-perlite mix in a plastic pot with drainage; never garden soil or fertiliser
  • 💦 Water: keep the medium damp with rain / RO / distilled water; a 5–10 mm tray of water is fine in hot weather
  • 🌬️ Airflow: once acclimatised, avoid a permanently sealed box — moving air improves pitcher formation
  • 🐜 Feeding: optional — a few small insects per month once pitchers are active; no fertiliser in the medium

📦 What you will receive

  • 1 established, actively-growing plant — one clump per order (sold individually)
  • Bag-incubated, then hardened to open-air growth before dispatch
  • At least 1–2 live pitchers or forming pitchers at the time of packing
  • Printed India-specific Nepenthes care card

🚚 Shipping & order policy

🇮🇳 Ships across India. Prepaid orders only — Cash on Delivery is disabled because carnivorous plants do not survive the darkness and dehydration of a return transit cycle. Orders are packed in batches alongside live lab work; typical processing time is 2–6 weeks depending on the plant and the season. We pause dispatch during peak monsoon (December–January). Every plant is a unique living specimen — the one you receive will vary slightly from the photographs.

Nepenthes Care

  • Light: Bright indirect light, 4–6 hours. Dappled shade outdoors. No harsh midday sun.
  • Water: Keep tray with 1–2 cm distilled / RO / rainwater (tray watering). Never let soil dry out completely.
  • Humidity: Lowland species: 50–70% RH (normal room humidity works). Pitchers benefit from misting.
  • Soil: 1:1 sphagnum moss and perlite, or pure long-fibre sphagnum. No fertiliser.
  • Temperature: Lowland: 22–35 °C. Tolerates Indian summers well.
  • Feeding: Optional — 1–2 small live insects per month. Never fertiliser.

💡 Tip: Tendril tip needs to touch a surface or hang freely to form a pitcher. Never cut tendrils.
