Description
Nepenthes alata × truncata is a highly productive hybrid combining the adaptable lowland constitution of N. alata with the enormous truncated pitcher form of N. truncata. The result is a vigorous grower that produces large, wide-mouthed pitchers considerably bigger than pure alata while being far more tolerant of typical indoor conditions than pure truncata.
🌿 About this plant
The female clone listed here develops particularly wide, flared peristomes that give each pitcher an almost bowl-like appearance at the opening — a trait directly inherited from the truncata parent. Colouration ranges from green with red speckling in lower pitchers to rich burgundy in upper pitchers as the plant matures and climbs.
Vigour: Among the fastest-growing Nepenthes hybrids. In good conditions (bright light, high humidity, warm temperatures), this hybrid can produce a new pitcher every 3–4 weeks. Upper pitchers are larger and more colourful than lowers.
Plant dispatched as a well-rooted female clone in active growth, size as listed. Multiple active pitchers present at dispatch.
✨ Why collectors choose it
- Wide flared bowl-like peristome inherited from truncata
- Among the fastest-growing Nepenthes hybrids — a pitcher every 3–4 weeks
- Confirmed female clone, valuable for breeding
📊 Care at a glance
| Parameter | What it likes |
|---|---|
| Climate type | Lowland |
| Grower level | Easy |
| Wild origin | Hybrid (Philippines × Borneo lineage) |
| Light | Bright indirect light. Benefits from some morning direct sun. The truncata influence means it responds well to higher light levels than pure alata. |
| Water | Distilled or RO water only. Tray-water or top-water. Keep medium evenly moist but never waterlogged — good drainage is essential. |
| Humidity | 60–80% RH. Does well in Indian monsoon and coastal conditions. Inland growing is fine with a humidity tent or regular misting. |
| Temperature | 24–35 °C. Classic lowland range. Will not tolerate sustained temperatures below 18 °C. |
| Growing medium | Long-fibre sphagnum or a 2:1 mix of sphagnum and perlite. Repot every 18 months. This hybrid responds well to repotting with a flush of accelerated growth. |

🌱 Establishing your plant in India
- 🫧 Week 1: unbox immediately, sit the pot in a bright, shaded, humid spot and let the plant settle for 3–4 days before any repotting
- 🪴 Repotting: only if needed — use fresh long-fibre sphagnum or a sphagnum-perlite mix in a plastic pot with drainage; never garden soil or fertiliser
- 💦 Water: keep the medium damp with rain / RO / distilled water; a 5–10 mm tray of water is fine in hot weather
- 🌬️ Airflow: once acclimatised, avoid a permanently sealed box — moving air improves pitcher formation
- 🐜 Feeding: optional — a few small insects per month once pitchers are active; no fertiliser in the medium

🚚 Shipping & order policy
🇮🇳 Ships across India. Prepaid orders only — Cash on Delivery is disabled because carnivorous plants do not survive the darkness and dehydration of a return transit cycle. Orders are packed in batches alongside live lab work; typical processing time is 2–6 weeks depending on the plant and the season. We pause dispatch during peak monsoon (December–January). Every plant is a unique living specimen — the one you receive will vary slightly from the photographs.
